XXcLusive: Rick Ross Fesses Up In May XXL Cover Story, “Yes, It Was Me In Those Pictures”
With his third solo album, Deeper Than Rap, slated for an April 21st release, Rick Ross is gracing the cover of XXL magazine’s upcoming May issue.
In the cover story written by news editor Clover Hope, Ross addresses initially denying being a correctional officer, his street credibility and his feud with 50 Cent, among other things. This marks the second time the Boss graces the cover of XXL. He first posed alongside DJ Khaled, Trina and Flo Rida for XXL’s July 2008 issue and now gets to shine solo on the May 2009 issue. Here are choice quotes from the cover story.-XXL Staff
On Denying Being A Correctional Officer
“Me not answering or addressing that situation has nothing to do with my career. I’ve accomplished enough, and I’ve made enough money for me to be good… Yes, it was me in those pictures. But I’ma tell you this. Me taking that job, I was doing my job. You understand what I mean?”
On His Street Credibility
“The stuff I talk about is real. The dope is real. The gun talk is official. Look up Kenneth ‘Boobie’ Williams. Look where he’s from. That’s not nothing to be proud of. I wish that on no man. But, just to let you know, that’s what I witnessed. It’s a reality. I cannot discuss certain people that’s still in the streets, and I will not. I took a street oath, and I’ma live by that, and I’ma die by that. And it’s not about a music career, ’cause that shit, I’m good. It’s about me and being in the streets.”
On His Feud With 50 Cent
“50 Cent made a statement [that he’ll] ruin somebody life. Where I come from, it takes a AK-47 to do that. Cartoons, we laugh—funny. You put on a wig, come out the closet—funny. At the end of the day, we in the streets finna drop another No.1 album, we pressing on.”
XXL magazine’s May 2009 issue featuring Rick Ross on the cover hits newsstands April 7th.

This is cool and all cause I actually said that he shoulda took this route when this story first broke. He still doen’t address the lie he said about the pics being photo-shopped. That was not the look, homie!!

Kanye west will lend his voice to the Cleveland show…

Rapper Kanye West is set to appear as a hip hop wannabe in FAMILY GUY spin-off THE CLEVELAND SHOW. The Stronger hitmaker is a huge fan of Seth MACFarlane’s original animated comedy, and jumped at the chance to lend his vocals to the up-coming show. The new series sees character Cleveland Brown move away from the neighbourhood he shares with bumbling Family Guy patriarch Peter Griffin. West will play an aspiring rapper called MC Kenny West, and recorded his guest slot last week (begs09Mar09). Executive producer Mike Henry tells People.com, “We knew Kanye was a big Family Guy fan because he invited Seth (MACFarlane) to his house a year or two ago. Co-producer Richard Appel adds, “Before we came to the table … there was only one line he didn’t love, and he came up with another idea and in a completely modest, nice way said, ‘Would you mind if I changed just this one line?’ “And our feeling was, how many raps have we written? One? And how many has he written? Be our guest.” The spin-off is set to air in the U.S. in autumn, with West’s slot slated to be shown in early 2010.

I’m interested in this cause I’ve always thought Cleveland was underused…

The Death of the Entry Level Job

2009 is a terrible time to be young, if you’re the type of young person who wants a job in the media, as opposed to the drug distribution industry. The “entry level” is…closed.

The Observer today profiles the sad lives and shattered dreams of the NBC pages, who were told that being an NBC page would start you right up the ladder to the Life of Tina Fey, when in fact, these days, it amounts to a bottom-level tour guide job with unlivable pay and far fewer prospects for advancement than ever before. Welcome to the media’s recession years.

The combination of factors took a toll on morale. Some pages bristled at a series of disciplinary crackdowns. According to one source, pages were regularly asked to keep an eye on their colleagues for possible infractions. “It’s a culture of fear,” said the former page.

Those who gave voice to the grievances felt they risked being blacklisted. “You’ve devoted a year of your life to doing it,” said another former page. “You’re so expendable that you really can’t complain about anything. If you voice feedback that’s remotely negative, you don’t get recommended for jobs.”

Wow, television is even worse than print. Which is not so fantastic itself! Unpaid internships are still around, but where is the payoff? Where is that entry level gig with real promise of advancement? It’s been “given away to a nice farm family,” that’s where. Just getting out of school and dreaming of a fancy magazine job? Instead, why not put that dream on the shelf, in a jar, and show it off as a curio at parties to your friends, who are also drug dealers?

Once upon a time New York Times execs were all former copy boys, New Yorker fact checkers could move up to staff writers, and if you were the assistant to the editor, you were almost guaranteed a decent gig after your indentured servitude.

Now you are not. Budgets are cut. Jobs dry up. Old timers hold onto theirs at the expense of yours. All you have to offer is your cheap, cheap price tag.

There’s no real comfort to be offered. Just ride out the bad years, sell your drugs, and bide your time until all the ad money comes flowing back in (6.5 years). At least you’re no longer in danger of becoming the pooping intern.

Actually, entry-level jobs dissappeared around the summer & fall of 2002, right when I graduated from Jackson State. Destined to be an entrepreneur, I think so!!!

Glow-In-The-Dark Air Yeezy’s

With Kanye West becoming a super performer on his GITD tour last year, its only right that his first signature shoe does the same right? Right. These were posted by one of Kanye’s ghostbloggers over at his spot this morning, and I must say the pics are pretty fresh. I’ve pretty much already written these off as “just aiight”, but I know that these pics may convince some who are not totally sold on em
